It's Abbey's Birthday!

I turned 2 today! At least this is the date my people picked, as it is 1 year from the day they brought me home to live with them and Duncan. To celebrate, I had a yummy breakfast of raw bison meat, specifically the Balanced Bison Blend dog food by Natural and Raw.com. Super, super yummy!

I've heard talk about possibly going to the dogpark later, which would make today great!

It Snowed!

We woke up this morning to about 6 inches of snow on the ground! Snow is one of our favorite things and we've had a great time playing in it this morning. Our mom took us to the fenced in ball field at our park and we tore it up!

Abbey likes to leave her treat bones outside, so she spent quite a while digging for them when we got home from the park. We also helped mom shovel the front walks. Hopefully the snow will stick around for a while!

Duncan gets awful snow balls in his fur, so he has to be rinsed off in the tub every time he goes to play in the snow, which takes a little of the fun out of it. But, it's still worth it!

Abbey's New Favorite Toy

My mom got a new toy for us the other day. It is a plush bird with rope legs. Duncan didn't find it too interesting, but Abbey love, love, loves it! My dad named it "Kevin", after the bird in the movie UP. Abbey takes Kevin everywhere in the house and takes it outside everytime she goes out. Thanks, Mom!

Duncan Goes to the Groomer

Today my mom told me that I had to go to the groomer. I really do not like going to the groomer. I've been to several over the course of my life, but it seems the one I'm going to now is one my mom likes, because I've been back there about 4 times now. It is called Mile High Mutts. I am always happy to get there and check out all the smells, but when my mom leaves I don't like it. And I don't like sitting under the dryer. It is loud and blows in my face. But, I always feel great when I leave! My mom always says I look pretty, too! At least I don't have to go back for a few months now.

Abbey Goes to the Vet

I've lived with my people and Duncan for almost a year! Today my mom took me to the vet for my annual wellness checkup. In this past year since I was adopted, I've gained about 20 lbs and I've gotten a lot taller (see right what I looked like when I was at the animal shelter). I don't really like to go to the vet. Strange people poke and prod me in strange places and make me stand still. It is very confusing and makes me nervous. My mom brought some of my favorite jerky sticks (Yak jerky sticks by Natural and Raw) along, though, so that helped a bunch! The vet said that I'm in good shape and that I have perfect teeth! I had to get 3 shots, but I was a good girl and sat still. The best thing about going to the vet is that our vet is only a few blocks away, so we get to walk there! My mom said that I don't have to go back to the vet for a year, which is fine with me!

Back Home, Again

Well, we're back home from WY! It was a good trip. We got to run in the field behind the house, which is our favorite thing to do! There are sometimes antelope in the field and Abbey would really like to catch one, but she's not allowed to chase them.

We're Heading to WY!

We have just been told that we are all going to Wyoming tonight! Our grandma lives there along with her dog, Ben. He is the same age as Abbey and I, so we are always very excited to see him! Ben is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, which is apparently a pretty rare breed. All we know is that he's pretty fun! He's grown up mainly without being around other dogs, though, so he doesn't really want to play with us. He just wants to play fetch with the people. Sometimes we steal his ball or other fetch toy so that he has to chase us!

We always look forward to going to Wyoming! It is a long car ride, but we get to play off leash in the big field when we get there and that makes it worth it! The only bad thing is that 2 cats (Tobey and Bailey) also live there. They do not like Abbey and always hiss at her. She doesn't like the hissing at all and usually wants to chase them once they start making all that noise. It causes a huge commotion and Abbey gets in trouble (even though the cats started it!!!).

Well, our people just brought out the red bag that means we're going for a trip! Oh goodie, goodie!!!

Agility Class Update

Here's a picture from my agility class last night. My class is held indoors, which I like very much! My mom started me at an outdoor class, but I was too scared of the traffic (it was right beside a busy road) to focus on what I should be doing. Out teacher thankfully had an indoor option, so we switched to this class location after just 3 classes outside.

Everything is set lower because there was a beginner agility class before my class.

Last night's class was super fun! Our teacher had us work on some drills. This meant more time for me to run and less time sitting around and waiting for my turn, which I really do not like so much! My mom said that I did better than usual last night, which is always nice to hear!

Some of my agility classmates are getting ready for a trial, whatever that is. My mom seems interested in having me do a trial, but I don't know when that might happen. Hopefully it is something fun!

Duncan's Agility Class!

Every Sunday night my mom takes me, Duncan, to agility class (Abbey has to stay home). I've been taking agility classes for about a year now and really like it! My instructor is Susan Marshall and I love the group of dogs in my class. Most of us have all been in the class together since our beginning agility class. My favorite piece of agility equipment is the a-frame, which I don't get to do nearly often enough. I don't love the chute, but I am trying to like it more. I just don't like all that fabric over my face! The jumps are kinda boring, too, so sometimes I don't want to do them. There is really no point to them in my opinion! Mom says I have to do all the obstacles, though.

Swimming at Chattfield!

One of our most favorite activities of all is when our people take us to the off leash area at the Chatfield Reservoir to swim! Well, actually Abbey is the only one of us who actually swims. Duncan prefers to wade and run along the shore. Either way, we have a great time there! There are always so many new smells to investigate, new dogs to meet, and sticks to chase. Abbey especially likes to hunt the lizards that live in the rocks along the shore and chase the ducks.

If you haven't been to the off leash area at Chatfield, we highly recommend it! It is a State Park, so our people had to buy a pass that lets us go as often as we like, although the weather is getting cooler, so we may not get to go many more times this year. Bummer!

A Day at the Englewood Dog Park

It was a beautiful day today and our people were nice enough to take us to one of our favorite dog parks, the Englewood Canine Corral. It was pretty crowded with people and dogs, as it usually is on weekends when the weather is nice. We usually prefer the dog park when it isn't too crowded, but there were some nice dogs there today that we could play with. Duncan prefers to just play with Abbey, but likes to visit with the other dogs and people. Abbey found some good friends to rough house with, though, which made her very happy.
